Night of the Long Knives 30th June 1934. Hitler ordered his elite SS to murder Ernst Rohm and other SA leaders as Hitler felt they had become a threat. They were murdered and Hitler's propaganda tried to convince the Germany people they were a threat to the country. The cartoon by Low shows the SA, Hitler's own men saluting with 'both hands', showing Hitler has turned on his own supporters to get what he wants. Hitler does not wear the swatika but the double cross on his arm. Goebbel's is shown as a poddle following Hitler and Goering as the God of War. A piece of paper says 'Hitler's unkept' promises. The cartoon shows the ruthless nature of Hitler and the Nazis, they are a threat, violent and stepping towards dictatorship.This murder allowed Hitler to gain the support of the army who also saw the SA as a threat. This is a turning point as the army from this point would swear a oath of loyalty to Hitler and Goering would start planning war with Hitler.
